I cannot believe our youngest child is a whole year older than she was this time last year!
Is it just me, or has Father Time been perfecting his skills as a marathon runner? He's getting faster and faster as the days go by! Not fair.
This sweet pea loves all things that sparkle, all things pink, all things fancy. She has taken after her sister in the fashion department, only she is a little more serious about not giving in to fashion faux-pas than Corrine ever was or is. Laynee is a very tactile person. She loves soft things and won't wear jeans unless it's her idea and the situation demands it. i.e., hunting or hiking. But on this day, she let me choose her outfit. She knows how to make her mama happy. (The zebra leg warmers were her idea, though.)
Every year she is so excited to be another year older. We have to make paper chains so that she can see and count for herself exactly how many days are left until the Big Day.
She wasn't too picky about her cake this year. There were no specifications as to the dimensions or decorations. She was, however, very specific about what she wanted:
George Strait, fairy wings, new red shoes, and a horse.
SIX! She's SIX!
Little girl loves her big sister.
Who is that handsome devil in the picture she's holding up?
That would be George Strait.
(George Strait for her birthday? Check.)
She wants to marry him when she grows up.
She said so herself immediately after watching Pure Country.
In the movie, when the parts would come on where he would sing at his concerts, I would hear her chanting, "George Strait! George Strait! George Strait!"
She has this picture hanging on her cork board in her room next to her bed.
Fairy wings? Check.
Red shoes? Check.
Horse? Check.
Sparkle, sparkle little dollar store horsey with wings.
Want to know what the one of the best things about having this girl for a six year old is?
She loves dollar store toys.
Happy Birthday heart cake.
I kindof love having a girl with a birthday close to Valentine's Day.
There are always so many cute girlie things available in the stores at this time of year!
See the face? See the unicorn? It's pink. With a heart bow. And it's a PINK UNICORN. Our girl couldn't be more thrilled about that fact. She has even gone so far as to tell me that she wants to be a unicorn when she grows up. When I told her that would be a little difficult, she came up with an alternative: be a unicorn owner.
We went to the mail one day and were excited to see there was a package waiting for us addressed to her. (Going to the mail = going to the post office. The mailman does not deliver to our house. Don't cry for us. The 8 mile hike up hill both ways in the snow year round is good for us.) She ripped it open and found a letter from a secret admirer with this precious and adored creature inside. You can trust that this unicorn has come to a good home and has gone everywhere with us. To dance class, to school, the bathroom. Everywhere. Her name is Katie.
Thank you, Secret Admirer. You have made this little girl's year!
On a final note, Laynee's writing is coming along quite nicely. She will spell words all by herself and sound them out without any help from an elder. The above treasure was found on our whiteboard the other day. And has shown up in other places as well.
You have read correctly:
Hunter is bad.
Corrine is bad.
Dad is God.
Mom is God.
Elayna is God.
Let there be no more discussion on the subject.
