she's got worms
Michael is so great about taking the kids to do outdoor things and teaching them about nature stuff. One time he was taking the kids fishing and he needed some bait so he took Laynee outside to teach her how to find earthworms. Here's how you gotta do it:
You wait 'til it gets dark and you grab your flashlight and head outside.
You turn your garden hose on and you soak the junk out of your front lawn.
Then you wait. And listen.
When you hear a sort of sucking sound, it means you got earthworms about.

Turn on your flashlight and watch the magic happen.
Them little buggers are fast, so you gotta be faster.

Those two filled up a Tupperware bowl with earthworms. It was so...nature-like and Laynee loved it.
For days afterward she would soak different parts of the lawn and dirt mounds in the flower beds and lay in wait for the wormies to rise to the surface. Then she would capture them and bring them proudly to her papa.
It's the only time she doesn't freak out when touching creatures of nature.
Up next: spider catching.
