A 5 year old

While we're on the subject of birthdays and since I've not been posting in order anyway, why not post about when this little ball of fire turned 5? It only happened, oh, 5 months ago.
Every year as her birthday approaches, she gets more and more excited to age. This year was no exception. She could not wait to turn 5. We made a paper chain this year, just like we did last year, so she would have a visual as to when her big day would arrive. Mostly it was so she wouldn't have to ask, "Is it my birthday yet?"  "Is today my birthday?" "When is it my birthday?"
Finally her big day arrived. She awoke to balloons and streamers and happiness all around. The big kids had school that day, and let me just say that both of them were genuinely sad that they couldn't stay home from school to celebrate Laynee's big day with her. It really was very cute. But, alas, off to school they went and Laynee and I were left to celebrate alone until 3:45 pm.
We celebrated by getting her all dressed up in a princess dress befitting of this little royal, and spending the whole day doing everything she wanted to do: McDonald's for lunch, Wal-Mart so she could spend her birthday money from Omee and Opa (my parents), riding the $.25 carousel in front of Kmart, smoothies at Jamba Juice, and dancing, dancing, dancing, when we got home.

The time finally came for us all to celebrate together when Daddy and the big kids got home. Nothing makes Laynee happier than having her whole family around her, and this time was no exception. She had a grand time opening each present and properly ogling over it before moving on to the next.

Hello, Kitty!

Mama and the birthday girl.
For the record, she requested her cake be, and I quote, "Dolphins, mermaids, oceans, sand, umbrellas, beach animals cupcakes, a round-ish cake and all of my candles that means I'm 5."

Oh little Laynee Loo, can I just say that every day you are with us is one more day of perfection? It's true. Before you came along, we were a family, yes, but not a complete one. Your arrival and presence in our circle brings more excitement, more pink, more smiles, and if I'm being honest, more frustration. But that's simply because you are so smart that if your brain is not being stimulated at all times, you need to express that. And right now you are learning appropriate and inappropriate ways to do just that. You have an infectious laugh and we all LOVE to hear you sing. (Internet, I kid you not, she gets this little growl in her voice and makes it go loud and then soft, like she's a pro or something. It's hilarious. I wish you could all hear it. She can sing every word to One Direction's Beautiful.)
Laynee Rae, your Daddy and siblings and I adore every inch of you. We are thrilled to the gills (our mermaid gills) that you belong to us.
Love love love, Mommy

Love the idea for the cake...isn't it funny how opinionated they can be about what exactly they want? Can't believe it's been 5 years.
