Weekend trip
Over the weekend, we made a trip to one of our favorite stores. Why we decided to torture ourselves on the 2-hour-one-way drive followed by all the craziness that comes with 3 children in a Sportsman's Warehouse is beyond me. But we did have a jolly time in spite of it all. If I do say so myself.
My favorite part? Spending time with my family, the long talks Miguel and I were able to have where he is my captive audience, and I his. Laynee was miraculously entertained in the back seat by the older two kids selflessly sharing their MP3 players with her. Well, that and a tiny nap.
When we pulled into the parking lot, Laynee was getting a little restless so I pointed out the bronze statues of the elk and the deer. No sooner had I said the words, than she goes, "I NEED TO TOUCH IT." Do you think we could turn her down and live? It wasn't even an option at that point to walk away. So we touched it.
And she was happy.
Then we went inside.
I will only outline the highlights:
- Corrine on Heelys. On a cement floor. With other customers present.
- Laynee finding a pink cap gun and shooting every stuffed/mounted animal in sight. Loudly.
- Corrine finding a camouflaged cap gun that made real shooting noises and accompanying Laynee on her hunts.
- Hunter riding in the cart and directing me where to go using the "Heil Hitler" hand salute. (He stopped once I whispered what it could be interpreted as.)
- Hearing from across the store, "I NEED TO TOUCH IT" every time Layna spotted an animal.
- Playing Hide-and-Seek in a duck blind.
- Dodging glares and sideways glances from all the other store patrons while chasing and trying to contain the kids.
- And lastly, leaving the store and managing to shove all of our purchases into the trunk of our Honda Accord.
All in all we had a grand time and the kids really were well behaved. I think next time, though, I will be the one wearing Heelys and being pushed around in the cart.
