Officially an 8 year old
satiety \suh-TY-uh-tee\, noun:
The state of being full or gratified to or beyond the point of satisfaction.
pernicious \pur-NISH-us\, adjective:
Highly injurious; deadly; destructive; exceedingly harmful.
It was a great day. Corrine was completely spoiled (according to her brother) and did not, I repeat DID NOT get her ears pierced; though not for lack of wanting.
I checked her out of school before lunchtime. I had this great place in mind for lunch and was so excited to surprise her, but knowing Corrine, she should not be surprised with food. So I began telling her about the great place and her face was sweet, but she didn't miss a beat when I asked, "So how 'bout it?"
"Yeaaaah. Um, why don't we go to the Chinese Food Buffet?"
So much for that. We went to the Chinese place. It was pretty yummy. Then I had this BIG surprise. I was going to cave. I was going to let her get her ears pierced. So I drove over to the ear piercing store and as soon as we pulled up, she got the biggest smile on her face.
"Are you going to let me get my ears pierced?!"
"I am," I replied.
Instantly, her face fell.
"Is it going to hurt?"
No. You're only going to have someone hold a plastic spring loaded staple gun up to your ear, pull the trigger and make a permanent hole in two of your appendages.
"Yes, sweetheart, it will hurt a little."
She didn't want to disappoint me and ruin her birthday gift, I could tell by the look on her face, but she wasn't going to back out, either.
That's when I said, "Or you could just choose out some super cute clip on earrings and wait another year to decide."
"Phew! YES. I like that idea much better, Mom."
May I just take a moment and say that I am so greatful that my sparkelies are safe for another year? Thank you.
After picking Hunter up from school, we came home and made a cake, ate dinner, played at the park, ate cake and ice cream, opened presents and had an impromptu band/karaoke session while listening to an Elvis cd. Ahhh. Good times.
I think I can safely say that Birthday Girl was happy to the point of satiety. And that by choosing not to go along with the pernicious decision to puncture her earlobes and getting the clippies instead, she can now have the best of both worlds.

I especially like the above photo. I chose this one so that all those who worship me and my housekeeping skills will know that occasionally, I do not clean. And that I do clean only occasionally. This was/was not one such occasion. Depending on how you look at it.
