For our anniversary, we decided to utilize the daytime instead of the nighttime this time because it was high time we did. It was the older two's last day of school, so just after dropping them off, I ran back home, prinked a bit, gathered Michael and together we drove Layna over to a good friend's (Megan) house. Megan is amazing and is always willing to help clean my house or watch my kids or even listen to me whine from time to time. Just today, she called me and asked if we could meet her and her kids at a local pizza joint. Alas, I had to turn her down because I really needed to get my housework done before my parents' arrival tomorrow. This is when she offered to come and help me clean. I swear there was no bribery involved. But you know how when someone offers to come help you clean, you have to clean before they get there? I looked around my bedroom, the room that needed the most help, and decided I needed to put away "some things". How embarrassing would that be if she came in and saw my "unmentionables"? I'd be like, "I don't know what those are. Never seen 'em before. Look over there! A huge, hurken (it's a new word I learned from New Zealand Amy) turkey vulture just took off with your son in his large talons!" And then quickly shove them out of sight.
After dropping Baby off, we drove up to The Big City. Michael had asked me the day before, actually days before, what I wanted to do. I told him I was working on a plan. He was so sweet. He just went along with whatever I wanted to do. I do appreciate all the suggestions I received. I did take them all into account when planning my day.

We drove to a huge bookstore and stayed there for almost 3 hours. In the parking lot. Ha. Just kidding. We got out of the car and then went in the bookstore where we stayed for almost 3 hours. We each bought a book and then we headed off to a furniture store to look at mattresses. I know. Romantic, huh? I bet if I worked in a mattress store, I'd be able to learn a lot about people just watching them test the mattresses.... I'm just saying.

We found one we totally loved. So we got up off the tester, and walked out the door. We left it behind. It was embedded in our memories and that was enough in our relationship; the mattress and us. Next we went to the mall. A big mall. Not an Arizona big mall. But a local big mall. It had more than 15 stores. Most of you who know My Man will agree that this was a hurken (I like this word!) sacrifice. He does not like malls. Or Olympic parties. Or night clubs. But he was so sweetly willing to accompany me and even hold my hand. In public. I know. I'll wait while you dry your eyes...

Anyways. While we were walking around the mall, I thought it would be fun to play a little game. The kind of game where you pretend that you are two different people than you really are, and you make up completely fake lives and then share them unnecessarily with strangers. When I suggested this to Michael, he looked at me like this

Apparently I'm not a potentate, and my idea was lost on him. Nevertheless, we had a great time wandering the many stores. And he didn't even break the death grip I had on his hand when I was still trying to play my game and I said to him when a saleswoman was near, "Oh look honey! These three cribs will look just lovely in the triplets room when they come!" And then I gently patted my forcefully protruding tummy.
After grabbing a delicious bite to eat, we headed on home to gather our baby chicks, and spent the rest of a relaxing afternoon together as a family. We dressed in our best camo, built a raft out of toilet paper, fed the kids chips and water, and set sail in our living room while smelling of sagebrush. It was truly a great day.
I am truly a lucky woman to have married this man. He is my life, my heart, my moiety, and my best friend. He even laughs at my jokes when they're not funny.
