My April Fools
I had so much fun making dinner on April 1st! I told the kids that we would have dessert first and the main course for dessert! They were thrilled.
For our "dessert first", I made Fauxberry Pie. Looks scrumptious, eh?All nice and fluffy and whippy.
Our "main course" was Shamburgers. Complete with home-made buns. I know. I'm going all Martha on you.
When I was putting the finishing touches of the whipped topping on the "pie", Corrine and Hunter were drooling.
We all sit down to eat and I to cut into the "dessert". Corrine says, "I want the biggest one!" I gladly oblige. She gets a bit of a "surprised" look on her face when she sees the inside of the pie. Still, she's pumped that she gets the biggest piece. (I was giggling with excitement by this point! Michael was in on the prank, too. We were acting a bit like Harry and Lloyd in "Dumb and Dumber" when they put the atomic peppers on the gas man's burger. "Why don't you eat your burger and we'll tell ya!" *sniggering and inside laughing*) She chops off a heaping fork-full and brings it to her lips. We all wait in anticipation. She opens her mouth to cram it in, then suddenly stops, drops her fork onto her plate and exclaims, "DON'T EAT IT HUNTER! IT'S PLAYDOUGH!" (Again, images come to mind of Harry and Lloyd standing over the gas man, pointing at him and going "HA HA HA!" as he's writhing on the floor begging for his pills. "My ulsa..." [or ulcer, if you're not from the Bronx]) Michael and I were laughing so hard!
Of course it wasn't playdough. This pie was completely edible. It was pink-dyed, whipped mashed potatoes atop a delicious ground elk/onion/bbq sauce meatloafy mixture. It was really quite good! "More tingly than hot."
Our "main course" was really sugar cookies sprinkled with sesame seeds. The "mayo" was frosting. The "lettuce" was dyed green coconut. And the "patties" were York peppermint patties. These fooled the kids, too, but only for a sec. They were on to me by now.
All in all, it was a fun joke to play on the kids and they thought it was hilarious, too.
It was a bit strange eating the Shamburgers, however. Michael said that whenever he would go to take a bite, he was expecting a salty, juicy, meaty burger. Instead, his taste buds were assaulted with an overload of sweet. Delicious, still!
