Holy Freakin'.......

....MOLY!
I should be titling this post, "R.I.P. Connie" but that would be rushing things. Let me back up to about a week ago.

Wednesday last, I made a trip up to Portlandia to visit Michael's favorite brother and his sweet wifey and their tres kiddos. It was so relaxing and fun and great to see them. It temporarily cured my homesickness. While there, I received a phone call from Miguel, saying that he had accidentally kicked the power surge protector cord whilst tap-tap-tapping away on the computer keyboard. Suddenly, the screen went blank, he heard a *pop*, and in his gut, a knot formed. He tried CPR, (Computer Program Restart) but to no avail. Connie was dead. Dead. DEAD.
DEAD. He was calling to tell me to say my last goodbyes because she would no longer be part of our family life after he got through with her. I understand his angst. When I did return home, I tried to revive Connie as well. I stripped her down, cleaned her off, (we all appreciate a good cleaning now and then, don't we?) and then reattached all of her limbs. She was not coming back. Comatose, I believe, would be a good word here. (There's your Wednesday's Word.) We called a doc by the name of Jason. He was very helpful. He talked us through our grief, offered support where he could, and even offered his hospital, free of charge, if he couldn't bring her back. If she did wake up, it was only a small fee of $40 bucks an hour. We jumped on that, because we all know that insurance won't cover Connie.
I'd like to be the person in the claims department who would take that claim:
"Please cover the cost of our dearly departed computer, Connie Falcon (because that's her brand). She's been with us through all our memorable times, and some not so memorable searches. She knows things about us! We need her back! And we want you to pay for it." Ummm, yeah. Wackos. I bet they even lick rocks to see if they sparkle. (Watch it sister.)
I must say that it felt as though my left arm had been cut off. I say left arm because I am right handed, and though I don't use my left hand for writing, itching, or applying mascara, I still use it a whole heck of a lot. I would miss it terribly if it were gone. I mean, now I would just have to "...do things with my one good arm to make you forget about that thing on my neck." (Now, that was funny.)
Now I've totally lost it.
OK. Back to the story. Because I know you're all dying to know.
We took her to the doc. After 3 days we were able to bring her home. She's awake now. No longer comatose. Jason was able to save all of her vital organs, nothing was lost. (Thanks in huge part to the external hard drive we purchased 3 days before the "accident".) But you know how when you wake up from a coma, some things just aren't the same? It's that way with Connie. She can no longer operate on Internet Explorer. We have had to make the switch to Firefox. I'm not sure how I like it. I'm not going to complain too much. At least I can browse the Intramanet. (Word, compliments of Anthony. Thanks.) I think the weeks of therapy ahead will take some adjusting. We will all recover, and be whole once again. Thank you all for your prayers on our behalf.

My dearest sister. I was heartbroken when I read about your sweet Connie. I am so relieved to find out that she is living. What a blessing. And you know what? Internet Explorer is a horrible drug that will kill! Yes I know. I was once a user... please don't tell mom and dad. That can be saved for a family reunion in the future where we all gather around together and we tell stories of dumb things we've done. Anyways, I switched to firefox a long time ago and I find it goes much smoother than explorer. It gives me much better kicks .aldsflkasdfoiweajfo;ew ij sorry that was a random outburst. (One of the side effects of firefox) Anyway, I thought I might express my condolences for Connie. Hope all is well. I loved your comments. I wanna plan to come visit you over the summer. Carrie wants to come too. We'll see. I love you mucho! Peace.

Ok, that was funny. I know, not funny, but really funny. I'm so stealing your licking rocks comment. :) Glad Connie is back, even if she's no longer a IE user.

Having your computer comatose is seriously crippling for me so I can totally understand the missing one of your arms comment!

I'm glad to hear Connie is back up and running... Even if she's a little off on her taste in internet. :0)
