Surprise visit and spur of the moment camping trip!
We had the wonderful opportunity to go camping with Michael's brother and his three kiddos and Michael's parents who were here visiting on a last minute trip from Utah. We had a blast. The kids played in the river practically the whole time (we kids at heart played a little, too) and had so much fun getting dirty, eatin' smores and campfire dinners, playing hide and seek in the woods, and everything else you do when you're truly roughing it. (use your imagination here) The kids caught some newts (salamaders) and Michael showed them how to get the minnows to come and eat midges right off the backs of their hands! This last part they did for over an hour! Michael also caught some crawdads which were surprisingly bright red, like tiny lobsters!
Before leaving our house, I had asked the kids to pack their own bags this time. I thought it would be relatively safe to do so, seeing as we would only be going for one night. Well, I peeked at Corrine's bag just before we loaded it into the truck, and she had packed enough clothes for a whole week! I was tempted to repack her, but thought better of it and just let it be. Wouldn't you know that she wore every piece of clothing she brought? That's right! She ended up either getting wet in her clothes or super duper dirty that she wanted to change! I guess she knew herself better than I thought I did! Hunter was the same way. He packed tons of shorts and a few shirts. Smart kids. I guess they take after me when I pack. Hey, it's better to be prepared than not, right? I mean, does it really hurt to bring a pair of shoes for each outfit? I think not!
